Saturday's rain kept me from going to the bird walk at Battelle-Darby Creek
Park, but between showers my husband and I drove through Prairie Oaks. We
were so excited to see 3 Bobolinks in a tree just adjacent to the Ranger
Station. This is a first for me!!! How exciting to see them. And we also
watched a Bluebird defending his mate in their box from marauding Tree
Swallows. We dubbed their address #21 Prairie Oaks Lane (because they were
in box 21). We saw many Red-Winged Blackbirds as well. Nothing else much
going on.

We headed down to Beach Road (just north of Prairie Oaks off of RT 142) at
Beaver Lake. There was very little action there, but as we were leaving we
spotted an Eastern Kingbird sitting on a branch of a small tree right along
the road. Another first for me!!!

Today, Sunday, May 4, I drove through Prairie Oaks again around 5:00 p.m.
The Bobolinks were still there, as well as the Bluebirds. I also spotted a
Common Yellowthroat Warbler (a first for this year). The pair of Blue-winged
Teal ducks is still residing on the small pond just inside Prairie Oaks.
They have been there about a month now. Don't see any indication of babies
(don't know if they actually breed here), but they seem quite content to
just float along with each other.

Anyone going to be at Blendon Woods or Hoover Reservoir on Wednesday
morning? I'm off work and would love a guide to help me identify those
beautiful warblers everyone is seeing.

Loving this springtime!!!
