From 4:40 - 5:15 p.m. today (12/25/13) 6-7 Short-eared Owls were active on
or near the Lorain Cty. Airport. They could be seen hunting on both sides
of Russia Rd. - over the airport grounds to the north, and on the ag lands
to the south. Also on both sides of Oberlin Rd. immediately north of
Russia Rd.
Several offered very good views perched on the perimeter fence of the
airport. Considering how much more habitat exists within the airport that
we didn't scan, more owls are probably wintering there.
