A walk on the bike trail today provided several noticeable changes to what
is here.
Birds:
Song sparrows were the only sparrows found today. (down from 5 species seen
last week)
Golden-crowned kinglets are still here in decent numbers.
Eastern towhee numbers increased to six (two last week).
New birds this week include Blue-winged teal (5), Green-winged teal (3),
House wren (1 singing), and Virginia rail (1, called 1x/grunt call). I have
to sift through my records, but I believe this is the earliest I've had a
Virginia rail at this location.
Mammals:
One Black squirrel (first one I've seen at this location)
Butterflies:
Last week, 3 Mourning Cloak
This week, 7 Spring Azure
Flowers blooming:
Last week, Coltsfoot
This week, Coltsfoot, Spring Beauties (in full bloom), Trout Lily (starting
to bloom)
