Birded the Wetmore area of CVNP this morning from 8:45-10:30 AM. It was a
good day for migrants and returning nesting species.
Before I got to the trailhead I found the Worm- Eating Warbler that has been
found in previous spring/summers in the wooded ravines just off the road up
the hill from the trailhead. I first heard the call from the road and after
10-15 minutes located the bird and saw it for 2 to 3 minutes.
On the trail across the road from parking lot there was a large movement of
migrating warblers and other songbirds
Warblers (15 Species)
Blue- Winged (8)
Tennessee (3)
Nashville (3)
Northern Parula (1)
Yellow (8)
Chestnut- Sided (6)
Yellow- Rumped (2)
Black- Throated Green (3)
Blackburnian (2)
Black and White (2)
Worm- Eating (1)
Ovenbird (2)
Common Yellowthroat (6)
Hooded (6)
Yellow Breasted Chat (1)
Other migrants of note included many Baltimore Orioles, Scarlet Tanagers,
Indigo Buntings, Great Crested Flycatchers, Blue Gray Gnatcatchers and Red
Eyed Vireos
And one of each: White Eyed Vireo, Brown Creeper, Ruby Crowned Kinglet, Wood
Thrush, Veery, Brown Thrasher
