Greetings from Slate Run Metro Park everyone!

Bill's message about eagles and shorebirds was rather timely... an adult
bald eagle was perched in the trees right next to the wetland "overlook
deck" (which is actually accessed from the Boblink Grassland Trail) this
morning around 10:30-11 a.m. Not knowing the bird was there, I was talking
with a co-worker upon our approach, and saw the bird take off right over us
when we got too close. It circled closely for a few minutes, then went
higher as it soared over the grassland area. After about 5 minutes it was
too far away to find again.

As for shorebirds, there were at least 130 killdeer on the mudflats seen
from the deck near the Wetlands Wildlife Refuge parking lot. They were
absolutely everywhere, and that's definitely the most I've ever seen
anywhere!

Is it a coincidence - or the food chain - that I saw the bald eagle and all
of those killdeer on the same day there?!?!? :) (For what it's worth, I
never saw the two species in the same place at the same time!)

Happy birding!
