Slate Run Metro Park (Canal Winchester, south east of Columbus) seemed practically devoid of warblers today, but I still managed to find 68 species in 3.5 hours there this morning (Thursday). Highlights included a single sandhill crane and numerous purple martins at the wetland, a yellow breasted chat at Buzzard's Roost, and a very loud and very close hooded warbler on the Sugar Maple Trail. A bobwhite may have called once on the Bobolink Trail, but so many other birds were singing that I barely heard it, and it never called again. Including the 5 other species I saw in my yard and on my way to the park, I got 73 species today! Just imagine if there were more warblers today....!
