Jay Stenger, Joe Bens and I visited Hogback Rd (Alum Creek) this morning. There is still large mudflats present, providing great shorebird habitat. The best birds were 3 SANDERLINGS.
Some other birds seen:
14 Great Egrets
1 Osprey
1 Red-Shouldered Hawk
~185 Killdeer
7 Greater Yellowlegs
38 Lesser Yellowlegs
2 Solitary Sandpiper
5 Spotted Sandpiper
3 SANDERLING
25 Pectoral Sandpiper
6 Semipalmated Sandpiper
9 Least Sandpiper
3 Stilt Sandpiper
1 Short-billed Dowitcher
1 Red-breasted Nuthatch
On 8/31 Jed Burtt and I saw 1 Baird's Sandpiper and 4 Semipalmated Plovers from Hogback Rd.
Also, Red-headed Woodpeckers are nearly guaranteed at the swamp north of Leonardsburg Rd. in unit B of Delaware Wildlife Area.
Hogback Rd is located in Delaware County, Delorme p. 58 B-2.
