From the behavior I observed today I have Prothonotary Warbler hatchlings in several of the nest boxes in the areas I monitored. Both adults appeared to be making many trips to the boxes throughout the morning. I have been told by several individuals that the new nest boxes I installed at the Boardwalk in Area M are bringing several Prothonotary Warblers up to the boardwalk itself. I walked the boardwalk this morning and to my pleasure there were 7 males singing between the first inlet to the corner with the observation opening to view the Osprey. It was a regular singoff. They were located as follows, 1 at the deep end of the first cove, 1 on the small peninsula, 1 in the far left corner of the second cove, 1 in the nest box at the center of the second cove, 1 in nest box G-4 at the right front of the second cove, 1 a short distance further along the boardwalk [very near the boardwalk], and 1 near the corner of the boardwalk. All were active and singing. Two others could be heard singing from the far side of the reservoir in Area K and there was also one at the northeast corner of the bridge over Little Walnut Creek. The later is probably celebrating that the work on the bridge has been delayed. The male in the territory close to the boardwalk came out to the boardwalk and alternated singing from the boardwalk rail and a branch reaching out from the shore. He definitely is not shy as he came to only about 2 feet from me. The kind of morning that puts a smile on one's face.
