Greetings one and all,
I went over to Big Island WA today to check on a report of a Ruddy Shelduck there. I didn't see it, but others have pictures of it there. I'm going to try again on Sat. when I can stay longer.
The shorebird activity has increased in the old ponds. Nothing truly spectacular mostly Solitaries and Yellowlegs, but the amount and activity has increased. I wasn't over on 95 today so I can't tell you what was there.
Also spotted two of this year's eagles fighting over territory...what a sight!
I had three Kingfishers hovering over one of the cells looking for food, chasing and being chased by tree swallows. :-)
Also several Kingbirds were feasting on flies and other bugs.
The best find of the day was a flyby by a female Northern HARRIER hawk with it's characteristic face and tail. Last year there was a nest somewhere at Big Island so I wasn't really surprised that she was there. I am just so used to seeing them in the fall and winter that I was looking for snow on the way back to the car...more like hoping.:-)
also present was a Mocking bird and lots of young GBHs.
If you want to look for the Shelduck, email me and I'll let you know where and when it has been spotted. As I couldn't confirm it, I don't want to put it on the listserv.
Have a great day!
Happy Birding and God Bless
Steve Jones
