While looking for possible owl nests in the cemetery I heard a red
breasted
nuthatch, and wandered over to have a better look. The nuthatch was
energetically excavating a small hole in the limb of a maple tree. I
could
hear another red breasted nuthatch nearby. It left the tree and
picked around
in the taxus and then returned to the cavity. (Seen in section 2, from
the road
between 2 and 5.) First heard the nuthatch there earlier this week.
