The leucistic hummer was showing well this AM at Inniswood. I was there about 9am. It frequented the feeder at the herb garden but also perched in the nearby trees.
Two Yellow-rumped Warblers were somewhat aggressive towards it when it perched, flying at it & making it move. The hummer didn't seem too concerned, moving just a branch or two away to perch again. Interesting behavior--maybe the warblers thought the white bird would draw unwanted attention from a passing accipiter?
The bird is definitely leucistic as it has a dark eye as well as some faint gorget & tail markings. Striking tho for sure.
Hope the hummer moves south soon, at least far enuf south that it would have a better chance of overwintering.
Blendon Woods was quiet bird wise but the golden leaves of the beeches were spectacular along the ripple rock trail. By the bridge, there was a noisy mixed flock of Golden-crowned Kinglets, titmice, chickadees, W-B nuts & one Brown Creeper.
Gorgeous day to be out & about.
