[log in to unmask][log in to unmask], 24 Aug 2007 21:06:47 -0700469_iso-8859-1 I arrived in Ottawa County this evening and I decided to stop by the west end of Port Clinton beach where Larry Rosche found a Piping Plover earlier this month. There was lightning far out in the lake around 8pm but there were Caspian Terns, other terns I couldn't ID and some Semipalmated and Least Sandpipers flying in around the rocks near the sandy shoreline. I saw another bird that I feel strongly was a juvenile Red Knot. Here is my description: [...]46_24Aug200721:06:[log in to unmask]

Tuesday night, August 14, 9:00 PM, the Discovery Channel's show "Dirty Jobs"
is titled "Vomit Island Workers." It features Black Swamp Bird
Observatory's work banding herons on West Sister Island.

From the website:
"Mike Rowe gets dirty as he braves the untamed world of Vomit Island, a
place where few have ever been and even fewer would ever want to go. Mike's
mission is to help band and count newly hatched Herons on the poo covered island."

Last year, the show featured Kristin Stanford and her research on the Lake
Erie Water Snake. It was excellent; a great mixture of fun and information.
Tomorrow's show should be great, too.
