Oberlin Reservoir had lots of waterfowl on it Sunday. Surprisingly, despite the usual good numbers of Ring Billed, Herring Gulls and a few Great Blacked Backed, I had over 100 Bonaparte gulls diving bombing the reservoir to get the small fish.
Despite the large number of Buffleheads and Ruddy Rucks, I think Scaups where tops in sheer numbers. There were certainly Lesser and Greater, but I did not pick through the hundreds to get a breakdown. There were the rest of the usual ducks, but no rarities.
I am still looking at photos I took, but I believe all the Grebes I saw were Horned. There were at least 30 of them. They all are different looking as they are transitioning into breeding plumage with a few completely in breeding plumage already.
The Bald Eagles have rebuilt their nest, just a little bit South of the reservoir on West Road.
