At 4:15PM this afternoon, Saturday, while heading south on State Route 534 in southwestern Ashtabula County, we watched a Short-eared Owl cross the road in front of us, giving great views as it headed off to the west. The location was about 1.5 miles north of the town of Hartsgrove, near the Cross Creek Conservation Club. This becomes our 285th bird species seen in Ohio in 2012. Not bad, considering we were not in Ohio during the months of January and February.
