I made a quick foray to Deer Creek State Park late
yesterday afternoon. There was a constant drizzle and
birds were few. I looked for the northern shrike from
about 3:50 PM to 4:20 PM, but he apparently had enough
sense to stay out of the rain. I did not check the dam
area for the egret, nor did I see it or the pelican
anywhere else. I did not spend much time looking.
A fly-over flock of 35 SNOW GEESE seemed to be
comprised of 18 white and 17 blue-phase.
At the mouth of the drowned creek on Rt. 207 south of
the marina and north of Crownover Mill Road, there
were three COMMON GOLDENEYE and three HOODED
MERGANSERS.
A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was hunting the fallow field at
the northwest corner of Rt. 207 and Egypt Pike.
