Following my little urban bird trail, I went from Highland Park
Cemetery late
this afternoon (2 pine siskins with the goldfinches, and one merlin
still there)
over to Harvard and along Green Road.
A northern shrike was perched at the top of a tree in a wooded ravine
between
the putting green and the National Guard armory on Green, just south of
Harvard.
I took a couple of quick pictures and decided to pull in on a rutted
road to get another look.
Two different police cruisers stopped by figure out what I was doing,
and so distracted, I
gave it up for the evening.
This is the first time I've noticed a shrike in this area, which I
drive regularly.
