Dan Gesualdo and I birded for a couple of hours this afternoon, starting at East 55th then heading west to Burke and Wendy Park/Whiskey Island. Highlights included two PURPLE SANDPIPERS on the far northern break wall west of East 55th (scopes required), a Red-necked Grebe right off of East 55th with 100 Horned Grebes, upwards of 15,000 Red-breasted Mergansers, and close to 5,000 Bonaparte's at Wendy. We scanned Burke Lakefront Airport with no sign of a Snowy, but this spot should be checked regularly with the present invasion.
