This is mostly to apologize. The editor of a local newspaper wanted me
to identify three binocular-toting subjects photographed decades ago. I
forgot I couldn't share the photo with folks on this list. Thanks to
friends with better memories and connections than I. The photos and
names will be published Thursday in the Short North Gazette, a
periodical established and long edited by Tom Thomson, with internet
address of www.shortnorth.com . His successor, Margaret Marten,
has prepared a tribute to Thomson and was hoping birders could identify
the folks in the photos, and some of you have been very helpful in doing
so. I recognized Ernie Limes of course, but I had to be told Tom was the
one with the beard (!), and the name of the third was new to me. Hoping
those of you interested will be able to read the tribute,
