Liz and I had a couple hours mid-day today to spend birding. We headed downtown Cleveland, past the tailgating Brown's fans, to the Burke Lakefront Airport along North Marginal Road. We dipped on the Snowy Owl that had been reported at the airport this past week. A small flock of Snow Buntings was seen flying east to west above the phragmites along the shoreline. One American Kestrel stayed perched on one of the tarmac signs for the duration of our Snowy search.

We headed to the East 55th Marina and found a lone Canvasback, several Lesser Scaup, and a Lesser Black-backed Gull among the more usual suspects. After a while, we moved down the road to the East 72nd Street park near the powerplant hot water discharge to scan the gulls. Liz picked out another Lesser Black-backed but we could find no white-winged or any other rarities before having to head home.

Good birding!
