eBird shows that a Red-throated Loon was observed late in the day Tuesday
from along Valley Road. There is only one sighting and no picture was
attached to the checklist. Does anyone have details about this bird?

With spotting scopes at the ready, Kelly Kozlowski and I went looking for
the "light loon" I reported Tuesday and found it to be a first year Common
Loon - nothing more exciting! It was a large bird (close looks as it swam
near breeding plumage Common Loons) had a very robust bill and the neck
markings were consistent with the field guides. Also, it did NOT have that
rounded, 'thick' looking head and neck of the Pacific. It was observed from
the north-most pull-off near the dam on Valley Road.

An interesting observation while we were working out the I.D. - it caught a
fish, then an Eagle swooped in, causing the loon to dive and loose its
catch. The Eagle neatly plucked the fish from the water and flew away!
