With the rain and then gale force winds last night, the ice surrounding South
Bass Island disappeared today. In the open water near Fishery Bay, lesser
scaup, redheads, and mallards were found.

A single snow bunting fought the bitter winds on the ground at the South Bass
Island Lighthouse.

Chris Ladd reported seeing five bald eagles (3 adults, 2 immature) at one time
on the ice in front of Perry's Victory last Friday.
