I birded around Pickerington Ponds Metropark and nearby parks (SE of Columbus) this morning. Teal Pond at Pick Ponds continues to be a good shorebird spot, while nearby Chatterton wetlands also had some waders and shorebirds. Landbird migrants were not much in evidence, but a few were at nearby Portman Park and the Meadowlark Trail. Highlights included:
Great Egrets - 12+ at PickPonds, and another 4 at Chatterton. Park Naturalist Scott Felker mentioned large roosts of 30-40 gathering at PickPonds in the eves.
Waterfowl - not much out of the ordinary, but 4-6 Blue-winged teals were at Teal Pond, appropriately enough.
Shorebirds - Teal Pond and Chatterton were the stars:
Kildeer - 30 Teal Pond, 20 Chatterton
Solitary Sandpiper - 3 Ellis Pond, 1 Chatterton
Yellowlegs - 2 Greater, 5 Lesser, all at Teal Pond
Pectoral Spr - 5 Teal Pond
Least Spr - 2 Teal Pond
Semipalmated Spr - 7 Chatterton
STILT SPR - 2 Teal Pond
Yellow-billed Cuckoo - 1 was calling at Meadowlark trail, not a place where they nest
Vireos - calling Warbling & White-eyed were along the Meadowlark Trail
Swallows - small numbers of Barn were at every stop; Pintail Marsh had 2-3 Bank Swallows as well
Warblers - no obvious migrants, but a pair of Yellow-br.Chats was acting defensive along the Meadowlark Trail (where they've been all summer). and a Parula was feeding a fledgeling along the bikepath at Chatterton
Orioles - 5 were along the Meadowlark Trail, and another 2 were at Chatterton
