Returning home from the Ohio Bird Conservation Symposium, we took the
"scenic" route" to do a little birding. On Wilderness Rd, at Funk Bottoms in Wayne
County, we observed ~50 Sandhill Cranes feeding in a corn field on the south
side of the road. Awesome sight.
We also had what has to be a very questionable sighting...while driving just
south of the landfill on I-71 south of Columbus we saw what really looked
like an Osprey, carrying a fish ("head on", just like Osprey carry them). We
were past it before we could get a really good look but 3 of us in the car
really had the impression of Osprey, not eagle. (Thankfully the driver did not
try to get a good look!) Does anyone know of the likelyhood of an Osprey in
Ohio this late in the year or has anyone else seen either an Osprey or an
eagle in this area?
