I went up to Ashtabula Co. this afternoon. First I checked Pymatuning Res. at the causeway (Ohio side), present there were bald eagle, 2 killdeer, 19 dunlin, 65 Bonaparte's gulls, and ring-billed gulls. Just north of there I drove by an Am. kestrel. Up to Conneaut harbor/adjacent park next, birds there included 2 hooded mergansers, 250 flyby red-breasted mergansers, 6 c. loons, great blue heron, greater yellowlegs, 500 Bonaparte's gulls, 2 great black-backed gulls, and Am. tree sparrow. I followed the coast west to Sunset Pk. in North Kingsville. Seen there were 13 buffleheads, 9 c. goldeneyes, 25 flyby red-breasted mergansers, 30 horned grebes, and Bonaparte's gulls. Last I went to Lake Shore Pk. in Ashtabula. A flock of 15 tundra swans flew over, and 5 c. loons were on the water. A decent number of gulls here included 100+ Bonaparte's. On the nearshore breakwall by the power plant were 13 great blue herons. On the way home in
Trumbull Co. I saw Cooper's hawk and Am. robin. Robins have been absent around eastern Mahoning Co. Later, Craig
