To Amy:  I think (if I am not mistaken) that the post about visiting the "Up" and the Soo area referred to the UP (Upper Peninsula) and Sault Sainte Marie area of northern Michigan, and wasn't about birding in Ohio at all.  As a new Ohioan, you wouldn't be expected to know that, but I agree, it would have been nice if the original e-mail was more clear.

Also, I agree with Ben Warner's assessment of the hawk ID question.  I believe it is an immature Red-tailed, not a Red-shouldered, based on the white markings over the back and the brown banded tail.
