between 2:20 p.m. and 2:50 p.m., in addition to the first-winter iceland gull mentioned by jen brumfield, there was a first-winter thayer's gull in the open water at e. 72nd street. the thayer's gull was, at times, very close to the iceland gull and afforded a good study of the differences in first-winter plumages of these two species.
