I was amazed and delighted to hear a northern bobwhite calling today--first
time in many years. Location was a farm/cow pasture on Middletown Road,
east of Hwy. 42, just west of the intersection with Red Oak Road. I have
heard and seen bobolinks in this area from Red Oak Road the last couple
years, but not this year, although I did hear some dickcissels. I assume
the presence of the quail must be the result of a recent release, but still
hearing that call takes me back about 50 years.
