Birders,
we are seeing a nice transition in our yard birds. Over the past
weekend, using feederwatch counting rules:
4 pine siskins
12 goldfinches
11 dark-eyed juncos
7 house finches
5 house sparrows
5 chipping sparrows
1 tree sparrow
2 song sparrows
1 white-throated sparrow
9 cardinals
1 rufous-sided towhee
7-8 robins
5-7 common grackles
3 European starlings
5-6 brown-headed cowbirds
5 american crows
2 blue jays
6 black-capped chickadees
2 tufted titmice
4 downy woodpeckers
2 hairy woodpeckers
2 red-bellied woodpeckers
2 white-breasted nuthatch
The carolina wrens have not been seen in a few days, and the house wrens
are not yet here. The red tailed hawks have been screaming and the
jays scream back. There's a (full) vulture roost three doors down. No
bluebirds or tree swallows in my yard, despite all the boxes. Maybe I
have them in the wrong spots.
Bill
