Due to large scale clear cut logging practices and other activities
detrimental to breeding success of white-throated sparrows, this boreal
forest nesting sparrow has had a significant decrease in its population.
Articles worth reading about this topic include:
www.oiseaux-birds.com/card-white-throated sparrow.html,
www.nrri.umn.edu/mnbirds/wtspa2.htm, and
www.wisconsinbirds.org/plan/species/wtsp.htm.
The Minnesota ornithological periodical, "The Loon" prints graduate
student articles on wildlife. Searching their index probably would result
in an article or two on white-throated sparrow declines.
Not sure how many Ohio graduate students are doing research on birds, but
these articles, I believe, would be a great addition to The Ohio Cardinal.
Good birding,
John Herman
