Took a drive out 229 to the west of Mt. Vernon. I then took Cochran road to Green Valley Rd
and traveled east. Saw a flock of roughly 50-75 Rusty blackbirds with a few Red-Winged
mixed in. Did not have a lot of time to survey the whole flock as a car drove by and flushed
the birds. I also saw Horned Larks, American Tree Sparrow, Song Sparrow, and Red Tailed
Hawks in the general area. Afterwards I went to the gravel pit located just North of
Watershed Road on Route 13. Two pockets of water held a good number of Canada Geese
with a few Mallards and Hooded Mergansers mixed in. I didn't have a scope with me to scan
for odd-ball geese on the far side, but was sure there wasn't any GWF or Snows.
