Greetings--Made quite a big loop today 10/21. Started at Conneaut: 15 gadwalls, 8 green-winged teal, 12 common mergs, flyby (to west) RED-THROATED LOON with a loose group of 4 common loons, pied-billed grebes, 3 juv. black-crowned night-herons, d-c cormorant, 15 Am. coots, killdeers, sanderling, 4 dunlins, Bonaparte's gulls, belted kingfishers, e. bluebird, 4 Am. pipits, golden-crowned & ruby-crowned kinglets, yellow-rumped warbler, 25 song sparrows, 10 white-throated sparrows, 3 field sparrows, 5 white-crowned sparrows. Several sites at Ashtabula produced: 10 green-winged teal, ruddy ducks, 6 pied-billed grebes, 40 d-c cormorants, Cooper's hawk, Am. coots, killdeer, Bonaparte's gulls, e. phoebe, Carolina wren, winter wren, 25 golden-crowned kinglets, ruby-crowned kinglets, song sparrows, swamp sparrows, 10 white-throated sparrows. The marsh near Orwell was devoid of aves except for a few turkey vultures. Am. kestrels were at Middlefield and Streetsboro.
Water was back up at LaDue Res. , seen there were: ruddy duck, 9 pied-billed grebes, d-c cormorants, red-shouldered hawk, e. bluebirds, yellow-rumped warbler, song sparrows, chipping sparrow. The traditional wetlands area along Pioneer Trail in Mantua Township (Portage Co.) had good habitat attracting: 75 mallards, Am. black duck, green-winged teal, 75 killdeers, pectoral sandpiper, 3 Wilson's snipes, horned larks. Water levels were way up at West Branch SP and Berlin L. At the Rte. 224 bridge, Berlin L. had 20 Bonaparte's gulls and 750 ring-billed gulls. Then I came home...later, Craig Holt, Lowellville
