Hi All-
Was out and about yesterday enjoying the warm weather, and decided to look for white-winged crossbills. I first checked out Rose Hill Cemetery--but no WWXB. But there was a large flock of starlings that included a male Red-winged blackbird. Robins were everywhere. I next tried the Cascade Valley Park area (part of Metro Parks Serving Summit County).
Found a lone Hermit Thrush near the entrance off of Cuyahoga St. That was a nice surprise.
Off topic--I was sitting on my front steps late last night--actually at 2 AM this morning, and had a skunk come walking up my sidewalk. Now, normally this might not be unusual--but I live 1 mile out of downtown Akron. The "woods" near my house are not really "woods"
There's no fields or what may be considered suitable habitat for it. I do believe this is the first skunk I have seen ALIVE out in the wild. As the skunk approached me-I help up my hand and said "No you don't" and it looked at me , then turned and walked up my drive way. It came within 10 feet of me--but no lifting of the tail! I live in a very urban neighborhood - so I hope it is living somewhere safe.
Bird on--
Sandy Brown
