coming from out of the area to attend the Midwest Birding Symposium, should
be aware of the resources for local birding available through the website of
Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO).

The BSBO main "birding page" includes a link to the latest information.
Featured right now is an update on current birding conditions at many of the
sites slated for field trips at the symposium, such as Ottawa NWR, Magee
Marsh, Toussaint Wildlife Area, East Harbor State Park, and Sheldon Marsh,
plus several other nearby sites. This writeup [...]51_16Sep200901:22:[log in to unmask]

I had a Red Knot at the inland beach at Maumee Bay State Park east of
Toledo this morning, Sept. 3. Also present were a Sanderling, 2 Semipalmated
Sandpipers, 2 Least Sandpipers, 2 Semipalmated Plovers, and some Killdeer.

Last Thursday, I had an American Avocet at this same spot (I didn't report
this bird at the time because no sooner had I spotted it amidst the gulls
and terns on the beach than it rose up and flew high off to the south).

This seems to be a good spot to keep an eye on for unusual shorebirds.
