I walked my fields with Tom Wonnacott this afternoon, who came on the chance of seeing the northern shrike. Failed to find the shrike, but were pleased to see a light morph rough-legged hawk fly by and land in the stand of pines towards Franklin Rd.
The first rough-legged hawk that I've seen here in at least five years.
Also, great close looks at a red-shouldered hawk. Otherwise, all the regular winter residents.
And, as a finish to a really nice day, a great horned owl is calling.
