I went down to Whetstone Park today. I was hoping that I would find a
variety of waterfowl on the Olentangy River now that the water is open.
There were a lot of mallards. i quit counting after I got to 40. There
were also some Canada geese. I did watch a great blue heron fishing
though. He never missed. Two strikes, two fish. Along the river bank I
also saw a Carolina wren. There were a lot of Carolina chickadees and
American Robins flying around too.
I didn't see much in Whetstone so I went over to the Park of Roses. There
were birds flying all over the place. Especially in the daffodil garden.
Downy Woodpeckers, re-bellied woodpeckers, house sparrows, white-throated
sparrows, song sparrows, mourning doves, dark eyed juncos, house finches,
goldfinches, pine siskins, and, of course, starlings. I even heard a
pileated wodpecker but I never saw it.
