The Lake Erie Bluffs metropark in Lake County was excellent this morning. I watched the lake from around 7:00-10:00 and there was a good movement of waterfowl and gulls. Of note were 12 brant, 2 surf scoters, 3,000+ red - breasted mergansers, 82 hooded mergansers, 1 Glaucous gull, and a lesser black-backed gull. Both gulls headed inland to the landfill.
Other birds noted were merlin, 4 fox sparrows, and 9 common redpolls. Also of note were several flocks of migrating chickadees along the lake totally about 70 birds.
