Cowan Lake is nearly frozen over. There is some open water beyond the spillway and at the East End where the creek runs into the lake. At the spillway I saw:

2  Pied-billed Grebes (some more grebes too far out to ID)
1  Red-shouldered Hawk - on a tree across the road, then flying

East End:

5 SNIPES - they even looked very cold.
