Greetings - the forecasted strong SW winds and warm temps today panned out fairly well but a north mix of winds came off the lake to slow down what could have been a great hawk watch at Edgewater State Park on the Cleveland lakefront today. Highlights included 300 Turkey Vultures, a single Merlin, 6 Red-tailed Hawks and a Peregrine Falcon. An osprey was present over Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve, and a Northern Rough-winged Swallow and a single Caspian Tern at Wendy Park were new arrivals. Wendy Park also held a handful of Fox Sparrows, flickers, a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, a single Brown Thrasher, and a Wild Turkey, oddly enough. Upwards of 1,500 Bonaparte's Gulls continue offshore Edgewater and Wendy Park.
