I spent parts of this chilly, breezy morning birding in the ravines of the Olentangy and the Scioto Gorge in Dublin. The former were in Highbanks MetroPark, while the latter is a green corridor along the Scioto River south of O'Shaughnessy Dam. Both are good spots for migrants, but were only showing temperate migrants this morning. Highlights included:
Gulls - 10-15 Bonaparte's were above O'Shaughnessy dam, many with their black hoods
Sapsuckers - none at Highbanks, but 2 were along the Scioto (at Kiwanis and Donegal Cliffs Parks)
Pileated - 2 were along in the ravines along the Dripping Rock Trail at Highbanks
Phoebes - numerous locations along both rivers
Tree Swallows - few at Highbanks, but small flocks at several places along the Scioto, topped by 30 foraging over the O'Shaughnessy reservoir in a cold wind.
Gnatcatchers - only a few, with 2 at Highbanks and 1 at Frink Park south of the O'Shaughnessy dam
Kinglets - small #s of Ruby-crowns at nearly every stop, while the only Golden-crowns were 3-4 at Highbanks
Brown Thrasher - 1 singing in a meadow along the north side of the Dripping Rock Trail at Highbanks
Yellow-throated Warbler - 1 was singing along the Olentangy at Highbanks, but 3 were singing along the Scioto (2 at Donegal Cliffs, 1 at Frink Park south of the O'Shaughnessy dam)
Pine Warbler - 1 was singing near the Nature Center at Highbanks, while another was singing in Frink Park along the Scioto
Louisiana Waterthrush - 2 were singing in ravines along the Dripping Rock Trail, in areas where they've nested in the past
Sparrows - lots of White-throats along the Scioto, fewer in the ravines of Highbanks
Blackbirds - lots of grackles in both locations, especially along the Scioto at Kiwanis Park. Cowbirds were also widespread, but not numerous
