John Habig called me about 7:45. He and some other birders were at
Cowan Lake Beach watching the 25 American Avocets when the birds got
up and flew off in the direction of the dam. They waited for about 15
minutes and the birds did not return to the beach. No one spotted
them on the water. It is possible that they circled around and did
land back on the beach, but it is also quite likely that they have
flown on.
