Songbird migration is picking up here in Athens. I caught some waves of bird activity this morning. Singing Yellow-throated and Red-eyed Vireos, and (at least) five warblers: Magnolia, Cape May, Blackburnian, Black-throated Green, and one of my favorites, Black-and-white. Other notables included a Baltimore Oriole, a non-breeding plumaged male Scarlet Tanager that volunteered to sing, and an Eastern Wood-Pewee. The ‘best bird’ of the day was probably a Red-breasted Nuthatch in the spruce tree in front of the house. Later, a soaring Turkey Vulture was joined by an Osprey.   

No better thing than weekend birding around the house before, during, and after breakfast!
