We discovered a Cackling Goose along with some 14 Canada Geese this morning. The bird was obvious by its size ( half the size of the accompanying Canada's and very short neck ). The front of the breast showed some darker streaking, not fully white. It never got up on land so couldn't try to judge leg length.
Nice start to the day !
We still have Ruddy Ducks on our small lake - they arrived early in September and their number is generally about 14.
