The peat pits at Wilderness Rd had lots of shorebirds this morning. There
seemed to be a little more water there than several days ago. The big event
was the fantastic numbers of stilt sandpipers. I counted 45, including one
group of 20. Shorebird species seen:
Am. golden plover - 1
Killdeer - 70+
Semipalmated plover - 10
Greater yellowlegs - 4
Lesser yellowlegs - 7
Least sandpiper - 17 (probably more)
Baird's sandpiper - 1
Pectoral sandpiper - 11
Stilt sandpiper - 45!!
Short-billed dowitcher - 11
