Ohio birders,

More events to put on your calendars for this June. May is almost upon us
with the neotropical migrants in their glorious colors - can June with its
abundant breeding activity be far behind? As has been discussed by Aaron
Boone and many others, please help us with the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlasing
this year and have fun with a bunch of other birders at the same time. My
husband Steve Schafer and I will be leading two weekends of blockbusting in SE
Ohio this June. We welcome all levels of atlasers - from beginners to
seasoned veterans - to join us.

On June 13-15, we will be surveying blocks in Meigs County.

On June 20-22, we will be surveying blocks in Athens and Morgan Counties.

In both cases, local landowners have invited us to stay Friday and Saturday
nights in vacant, fully furnished farmhouses. Allen Elberfeld has offered the
use of his old farmhouse on 500 acres near Tupper Plains as a blockbusting
base on the nights of Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14 (Meigs County).
Terry Pfeiffer and Jim Jeffers have offered their air-conditioned (!)
farmhouse on 300 acres near Joy on the nights of Friday, June 20 and Saturday,
June 21 (Athens/Morgan Counties). In both cases, we plan to rendezvous on-site
on Friday evening -- Steven and I will provide dinner. On Saturday, we will
supply breakfast and dinner and plan to spend the entire day surveying birds
in the area. We will also atlas on Sunday morning, and then disperse on Sunday
afternoon.

You are welcome to join us for part or all of either weekend. It's a fun way
to contribute to the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlasing effort in an under-birded
area of the state. Email Janet (duerr at ohio dot edu) for more details if you
are interested.

Thanks,

Janet Duerr
