I stopped after work at several areas on either end of the Cheshire causeway, which bisects the south-central portion of Alum Creek Lake. Hardly any ice was present, which allowed waterbirds to lurk in many hidden bays. In an hour, I stopped at the Alum Creek campground, the Cheshire boat launch, and the Old Africa Road access, and found:

Redheads - 10 off Old Africa Rd, another 5 off the Cheshire launch area
Lesser Scaup - 70 scattered between all 3 sites
Bufflehead - 4 off the Cheshire launch area
Com.Goldeneye - 32+ off Old Africa Rd
Ruddy Ducks - 4 off the Cheshire launch area
Horned Grebes - 4 off the campground, another 2 off Cheshire launch area
Kildeer - singles at all 3 areas
Gulls - all Ring-billed, with the most being 50 on a gravel bar north of the campground
Pileated Woodpecker - 1 bird roaming around the campground area woods
E.Bluebirds - 4-5 around the campground area
Yellow-rumped Warblers - a straggling flock of 18-20 birds around the west end of the campground
