Birders in Ohio, especially in the central part of the state, should be aware that multi-talented birder and naturalist John Acorn is going to be appearing in Columbus on the evening of February 3rd. John is best known to the public for his weekly program "Acorn, the Nature Nut," which ran for several years on Animal Planet and on the Canadian Discovery Channel, engaging millions of people with his humor, corny songs about wild creatures, and solid natural history information. However, John also had a lesser-known TV show focused on birding, called "Twits and Pishers," that was equally fun to watch.

I've known John Acorn for several years and I'm constantly impressed and amazed by his knowledge about all aspects of nature. He lives in Alberta, but we've birded together in Arizona and Texas and he knows those birds extremely well. He also has written books about butterflies, tiger beetles, dinosaurs, and various other nature subjects, and he's constantly in demand to speak at bird festivals and nature festivals, although "speaking" for John often includes some singing as well! Anyway, he's going to be appearing in Columbus on February 3rd at the annual banquet of the Black Swamp Bird Observatory, and I understand there are still some spaces available. More information is here:

The link says that January 27 is the deadline for registering but you can check on availability even if that date is past.

John Acorn is one of the most influential naturalists, and one of the most effective ambassadors for natural history, on this continent, and this is a great opportunity to meet him in person.
