What a difference a year makes! New Year's
2006--bright, sunny and 50ish--netted 25 species
including 2 out of season (fox sparrow, pine warbler)
and 2 cemetery personal firsts (rusty blackbird,
red-shouldered hawk).  2007 is grey, raw and windy;
sensible birds (unlike birders) stayed hunkered down.
Total only 16 species, the usual suspects--with the
exception of one of the now-famous merlins, spotted on
my way out about 2:15 p.m. atop a tall deciduous tree
in the vicinity of Section 93. It had its back to me
and didn't stay long so I can only say it had a
pronounced dark mask. (Sorry, Rich!)
 Happy Birding 2007!  Pam Unger

It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters, in the end. --Ursula K. LeGuin
