        R. McCarty reports a displaying American woodock on his property in
Adams Co on 13 Jan. This may be the first *early* report for 2007, and
an Ohio record, joining a lot of remarkable or even record-late fall and
winter ocurrences--involving green heron, great egret, spotted
sandpiper, buff-breasted sandpiper, common nighthawk, chimney swift,
red-eyed vireo, blue grosbeak, warblers such as Nashville, mourning, and
n. parula, and Nelson's sparrow.
As someone who helps keep Ohio records, I hesitate to say "you can
throw the record-book away," but we are definitely having to rewrite it
season by season. Let's hope this is just a weird year, and not part of
something larger happening alarmingly quickly.
