A very different set of birds today compared to yesterday at Shaker Lakes. Yesterday there were still at least five species of warbler still around with Redstarts out numbering the rest by a wide margin. Today I had to "work" to get only one, a single Yellow-rumped. Swainson's Thrushes numbers picked up over night. I saw 12 today in my short walk around the boardwalk. Also new for me for the location and season were Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Red-breasted Nuthatch (heard only), Winter Wren and Brown Creeper. This signals a shift for me: time to start birding the local sparrow areas and successional habitat. Dike 14 anyone?

Cheers,

Ben Fambrough
