I wasn't going to go to Wlldwood Park today on the east side of Cleveland (Lakeshore Blvd. & E. 174th St.) but I received a call from Mark Anderson (who birds there all the time) around 4:50pm who was there and found an AMERICAN BITTERN. I had to go home first but got there after 5:20. It was in the main woods west of the bridge area on the path going towards the bathhouse. It was on the ground near a big puddle - when he approached it flew to a slightly taller thickety tree. By the time I got there the lightning just stopped and it was only raining but it hadn't moved. After awhile it flew to a very tall tree and was balancing itself in the wind. We left it when he had to leave and when I circled back later I couldn't find it.

  Today also saw my first:
Ruby-crowned Kinglets - seem to be many
  Yellow-rumped Warblers 2-3
  Winter Wren (first seen 4/8)

  Still seeing E. Towhees - multiple, B. Thrashers - 2
Hermit Thrush 10-12, Fox Sparrows 3
White-throated Sparrows 2 (new for me)

Nancy Anderson (also for Mark Anderson of Cleveland - no relation)
  Richmond Hts, OH
